Rules to Live By (a start…)
Follow your heart. Always.
If you feel like you’re settling, then you are. Don’t. Especially with a woman. Join or start a band. Don’t be afraid to sing. When you do, sing with all your heart. Learn to dance. There is nothing that you can not do, or learn to do. Draw, regardless if you’re good at it. Homework is important, and so are your grades, but don’t sacrifice a social life for them. Be original. Dress how you like, however, know when it’s time to dress nice and clean up. Shave your head at least once. Hair can always grow back. Try new things, especially when in a new location. Don’t be afraid to express your feelings. When you’re interested in a girl, tell her. If you don’t someone else will. Love as if there is no tomorrow. Cigarettes haven’t been cool since the 1950’s. Owning a good suit is invaluable. Splurge, but don’t forget to save. Remember that you work so that you can live, you don’t live so that you can work. There’s always another option, whenever you hit a wall in life. Karaoke night is always a good idea. Nobody has to approve of your choices but you. The people who matter most in life will understand eventually. Girlfriends shouldn’t hold you back from your friends. Do what you know is right. People will respect you more for it, even if they don’t like the outcome. Be brutally honest, except to women. When you love someone, tell them at every possible chance. Compliment, compliment, compliment… but only when you mean it. Drinks alone are meant to be sipped. Drinks at a bar are meant to be drank as if it were a competition… unless you’re driving. Play a sport. Don’t follow professional sports too closely, there are far more fun and important things in life. If you don’t like the way you look, feel free to change it, but know that someone out there will always love you for who you are. Take pride in your lawn. Read as many books as possible. Learn to fight, and hope you never have to use it. Be confident. You can do more than you could ever imagine. When you find a woman who makes you feel like the luckiest man in the world, never stop chasing her. Know when something is more detrimental to you than it is beneficial, and at that point, know when to let go. High school is the least important time in your life, despite how it may feel at the time. Funny is good, annoying isn’t. Know the limits. Take pictures in excess, but don’t sacrifice experiencing the moment for it.
